UCI CalTeach Core Commitments

Equity: CalTeach prepares candidates to be effective, evidence based educators who foster equitable learning enviornments with emphasis on serving underrepresented populations

Social-Cultural Emphasis: CalTeach candidates learn how knowledge is acquired and distributed for all students. As math and science are high status knowledge, candidates become aware of structural and social barriers that they must help their students overcome to be successful in these content areas.

Practice of Teaching: CalTeach candidates excel in their implementation of innovative, inquiry-based instruction based upon research on how math and science are learning and retained. Candidates make evidence-based decisions as they reflect both pragmatically and empirically on their practice and their students learning. Candidates integrate 21st century competencies into their work with students.

Professional Growth: CalTeach candidates demonstrate continual professional growth from their ongoing growth in teacher beliefs to their growth in leadership, innovation, agency, and ability to use evidence to make educational decisions affecting school and community.
