“I love seeing students have those “ah-ha” moments!”

Amanda Givens, 2010 Mathematics

My CalTeach cohort year was 2010…the actual cohorts hadn’t started yet. I graduated from UCI as an undergrad in 2010 and completed the Internship Credential Program and MAT at UCI as well.

I teach at La Quinta High School in Garden Grove Unified and have taught here for 4 years. I am currently teaching Algebra Companion (which is Algebra support) – 9th grade and Trigonometry/Statistics – 10th-12th grade.

I absolutely love my job, even though I leave for the day feeling like all of my energy has been sucked out of me. My favorite part about my job is the idea that I am able to impact at least one person’s life, in some way, on a daily basis. I love seeing students have those “ah-ha” moments! I also really enjoy working with students outside of the classroom. I am the advisor for Girls’ League, which is an all girls, community service club on campus.

In my spare time I like to spend time with my husband and my dog. I enjoy baking, knitting, and scrap-booking as well.
